Steel Penny Collection

Steel Cents Collection

Here's a little bit of US history - in 1943 war time, steel pennies were minted due to expectations of a copper shortage. This Steel Cents Collection of 5 pennies (minted in Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver) was never placed into circulation.

The current US penny is zinc with a copper plating. Did you know that in the 1970's they considered making them out of aluminum? A very small quantity were minted but never circulated. These aluminum pennies are now considered illegal and are subject to seizure by the Secret Service. Wow!

A Proud Day in Packers History

Brett Favre Captured in this framed photograph, Brett Favre just threw his 421st touchdown pass.  Of course this was way back in  September and I believe as of this posting he is at 440.  Brett Favre has thrown more touchdown passes than anyone in the history of the NFL.  I'd have to say, not bad for an old man.  Online Sports carries this gift idea for $59.99.

Homer Simpson Collectible

Homer Simpson Collectible

So yesterday's post on the sausage sampler brought up the unconconcious connection to Homer Simpson and his love of food.  How could Father's Day be complete without a reference to America's Favorite Dad.  Sorry, Ward Cleaver, this is a new generation with new role models.  Kind of makes you wonder who will be hold the America's Dad title for the next generation.

This Homer collectible is from This Misadventures of Homer Simpson Figurine Collection retailed by Collectibles Today.  Each month or two a new figurine comes out and is available for $19.95.
