Is that Pumpkin Ripe?

Pumpkin Holder

Today is Ripe Pumpkin Day, this is a day to learn how to tell if pumpkins are ripe. Typically a pumpkin that is ripe will be orange all the way around, the skin will be hard, the stem will be hard, and it will have a hollow sound when you thump it.  Go to your local pumpkin patch, get to thumping some pumpkins and pick out those you will use to decorate your yard for the Fall season and for Halloween.

This Pumpkin Holder is a great way to give your Jack-o-Lantern a little more character, and will make a great addition to your Halloween decorations.

Candy Corn Wreath

Candy Corn Wreath

I can just hear the thoughts of the squirrels now - "What yummy thing has she put out for us now?" Well, the trick is on them! This Candy Corn Wreath has wooden candy corn and colorful metal stars. Great for Fall and Hallowe'en decor.

Of course, our squirrels aren't that picky. I remember what they did to my hot pepper lights last year. Grrrr!

If I Only Had a Brain.

You  may be wondering  why Build a Scarecrow Day is in July and not October.  That is because scarecrows are to scare away the crows feasting on the growing crops.  So if you waited until harvest time you would not have much of a harvest.  You can get creative when making a scarecrow, making them look like they are dancing or they can be scarey, happy or sad.  You can even build two so they won't be lonely.
