Red Poppy Necklace

Red Poppy Necklace

Pennsylvania artist Diane Kline creates small prints of her original paintings and transforms them into lovely eco-friendly works of wearable art. This Red Poppy Necklace is one example of her individually crafted, handmade jewelry.

The red poppy was adopted by the British and Canadian Legions as a symbol or remembrace for WWI and  a way to raise funds for veterans. Even in the US, veterans give out a small imitation red poppy when receiving donations around Memorial Day. In Britain it is known as Armistice Day and was renamed Remembrance Day after the WWII. It is held there on November 11.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row by row,...

Nothin' Beats a Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Great cooks know that nothing beats an old fashioned Cast Iron Dutch Oven for long, slow cooking. Rugged stuff, this cookware can go on top of the stove, in the oven, or over a camp fire. Pre-seasoned and ready to go, this 5-quart pot is made in the USA by Lodge, and they've been making cast iron cookware since 1896, so those guys know what they're doing..

This is the perfect vessel for chili because it holds the heat evenly and has a nice tight lid to keep in all the flavor.

Now the big question for you chili fans: Beans or no beans?

Jumbo Shrimp!

Key West Jumbo Shrimp

Yes, I know - George Carlin called the phrase "jumbo shrimp" an oxymoron, but that doesn't apply to these Key West Jumbo Shrimp! Big, juicy and pink, these puppies are just waiting to be steamed, boiled, skewered, barbecued, fried... But I digress.

This weekend is the Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival. Ahhh, LA in the fall (that's Lower Alabama, ya'll!)  If you can't go, do yourself a favor and get some of these big guys and create your own party. Great for tailgating, too. You'll be the hit of the parking lot!
