It was 40 years ago today that the internet officially came into being. Engineers at UCLA and the Stanford Research Institue in California sent the first data between nodes, then known as Arpanet. You are reading this story now because of them. They used phone lines so that two computers could talk to each other. Please press the number 1, please press the number 3, can I just talk to a human being please! If you are like me, I am sick of talking to robots when I call a customer service number, you can never get to the right person, and then the system will at time cut you off. Well, I have the answer check out the website www.dialahuman.com/ Dial A Human has a database of phone numbers and button combinations that give you an actual human. No you more weird robot voices telling you to press numbers.

Inane Answering Message Day

I'm not real sure if I understand this day, Inane Answering Message Day, because it can go either way. It can either be for the inane messages people leave on your answering machine or for the inane messages put on answering machines for the caller to hear. In any case I have heard both. There is the message that sings to you, or gives you some kind of thoughtful input into life. Then there are the messages left for you, prank calls, people that you have no idea who they are and they really miss talking to you, or the scammers who just say you must call them immediately, they have information for you that is of the utmost importance. In any case today would be the day to either stop leaving those messages that some poor soul has to listen to, or change your message to something the opposite of what you usually have. If your message is normal, "Sorry we can't come to the phone right now.....", try having the entire family sing a verse from your favorite song. |
