Happy Birthday Bilbo and Frodo!  Today is Hobbit Day a day LOTR fans can party like a hobbit.  If you are celebrating your birthday like a hobbit then you know that hobbits do not receive gifts on their birthdays they give them away, and what would any LOTR fan love better than this Lord of the Rings Trilogy Film Cell.  You can celebrate Hobbit Day by taking off those shoes and eating lots of food, remember to have your breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, tea, dinner, and like Taco Bell has the 4th meal hobbits have supper late at night.  How can you tell if someone is way to obsessed with LOTR?  If they display any of the following behaviors they are totally LOTR-loco...

1) They have packed on the pounds from eating the "6th meal".

2) They fluently speak a Tolkien language.

3) At work they refer to meetings as The Council of (insert boss's name).

4) If they annually have a party on September 22nd.

The two things people least want to think about, Death and Taxes, are shown here in a representational poster of the proposed federal discretionary budget for 2009. If you pay taxes, then you have paid for a small part of everything in the poster.

If you look in the 1 o'clock position just outside of the center ring, you will see that the Corps of Engineers budget for flood control of the Mississippi River and Tributaries is actually down 11%. Take a close look, Katrina and Gustav survivors.

This plaque from Femail Creations would be the perfect gift for those who don't cook.  You know the type, they eat out or get delivery, or only eat things that can be cooked in the microwave.  I have a sister-in-law who fits this profile.  She has never used the oven in the over 7 years she has lived in her house.  She didn't even know how to turn it on.  The real kicker about her is that she has top of the line pots and pans.  Of course, they have never been used either.  Go figure.

 A  much older friend of mine is moving to an "over 55" community and when I saw this plaque I knew this would be a perfect housewarming gift for him.

I went this weekend for a visit to check the place out and I had an experience that will forever be burned in my brain.  I have never seen that many "senior citizens" in one place but what really shocked me was that... they know how to party!  Dancing, drinking, and having a good time (from 3pm to 9pm).  One minute you would see a dude with a walker and the next he would be on the dance floor doing the twist.  I am serious!  From what I saw, these folks live by the motto on this plaque.

Apparently he is the man, he has his own sign!  Do you know this person?  The one who's wisdom rises above all others?  A gift idea for the Bob you know from What on Earth.  They have an entire line of "Bob" stuff.  I don't understand what is so special about Bob.

Is there some joke about this that I have not heard?  Why did they pick the name Bob?  I am sure there are others with different names who also possess this wisdom.  For example, I am sure there are some...lets just pick a name out of the air.  How about Gary?  I am sure there are some Gary's out there who's wisdom exceeds all others.
